Working on a series to visualize tree communication. 🌳⚡️ “When mother trees are injured or dying, they also send messages of wisdom on to the next generation of seedlings. So we’ve used isotope tracing to trace carbon moving from an injured mother tree down her trunk into the mycorrhizal network and into her neighboring seedlings, not only carbon but also defense signals. ”

Knits moved out, is still with Translator, and they are both dating Architect. Knits never got that dog but did move to a new apartment for awhile with her cat Conrad. She are I are still besties.
JC and I separated after 10 yrs together; we still own the house. We are seeing how we grow, apart. He’s at his sister’s house and I’m at our commune house. I’m living in it with my partner Glean (we started dating in Aug 2015…), and our friend Witchy. Ripley is still here.
Ajna friendship broke up with Glean and me by extension. We haven’t spoken for years.
Redbeard and Delta are similarly out of my circle. Last I heard, they moved into a farmhouse owned by Redbeard’s bro. Delta tried emailing JC to “get closure” from the commune dissolution, but after JC didn’t respond for a few days bc Delta’s name triggers anxiety; so Delta emailed again in a rage-quit kinda way for the nonresponsiveness, insulting JC. They never emailed me or Knits. It seemed like their old M.O. of blowing up when things don’t go as planned and I’m glad I don’t live with them anymore.
In hindsight, I can recognize Delta’s behaviors (controlling, blowing up, Munchausens-y lies) as symptoms of borderline personality disorder, though they would disagree with it (they felt like BPD is misdiagnosed PTSD and related conditions, though they felt so strongly on it bc of their own diagnoses). Regardless, they focused so much on ensuring the commune system was functioning well that they neglected prioritizing self care and therapy. Then they took their tired frustrations out on their friends and lover, mostly in abusive manners I described before.
I am still working on communicating better. Turns out, I *really* avoid uncomfortable conversations. Or even the possibility. Therapy is helping me try to have them, though.
I’m still with that job I got as posted here. 5yr anniversary this year! I’m working in becoming a queer comics peddler in the meanwhile.
I don’t regret communalizing, though I do wish we hadn’t done so with Delta. Their drive and goals led to us accomplishing much quickly, but their unregulated rages and depressions made living in the same house toxic. I think it might have been feasible if we’d had individual homes, but it is pretty hard to accomplish that in your 20s!
If I had a do over, I’d still purchase this place (great price of 130k in 2014, and now it costs around 170-210k to buy the same layout home. I do think it should only be valued around 130, though. Our mortgage costs about $1,100 per month.
The only graceful moments of their short lives so far
And no, I don’t know why the one standing in the middle looks so different from the other three
You could tell the Ameraucana was going to become the top hen because she’s already standing guard over the Buff Orphingtons the first day we brought them home. At the feed store she was in the bin with the BO pullets and would’ve been double the price, so I’m not surprised we didn’t know what her deal was.
The American Kennel Club is proud to announce the addition of a new breed to the Terrier Group, effective April 1. The Silver-Coated Pouch Terrier is known for his hardy constitution and characteristically “wobbly” but surprisingly efficient movement, capable of tremendous reach and drive. Like so many breeds, the history of the SCPT is lost in the mists of time, but we know that his association with humans reaches back to antiquity. His lush, silver-sable double coat needs only minimal maintenance, requiring a bath only about once a year or whenever he becomes smelly. A defining characteristic of the breed is his gently rounded (though not roached) back, with his long, somewhat hairless tail carried low and continuing the graceful curve of the topline. The tail is traditionally undocked.
Fanciers especially praise the breed for ease in puppy-raising, as the dams have a habit of carrying the litter around with them in the female’s unique abdominal pouch until the pups are ready to go to their new homes. Like most terriers, the “Pouchie” (as he is known by his adoring fans) can be fierce as needed when confronting his prey, but otherwise he is very docile and largely goes about minding his own business at a slow pace, so he makes a wonderful companion for the owner with a more sedentary lifestyle. The breed is also well suited to owners with insomnia, as the Pouchie tends to enjoy activity during the night and into the wee hours of the morning.
With the breed’s stubbornness and independence, training can be a challenge, and a lack of response to sensory signals such as bright oncoming lights can cause frustration for the trainer. The breed is not recommended for the agility aficionado; although they are excellent climbers and manage the A-frame with astounding skill, they seem incapable of jumping even the smallest of hurdles.
The Pouchie comports himself well in the show ring, although as outlined in the standard judges should note that the bite is not to be examined, and the breed is not to be sparred. Experienced exhibitors know to always remember that if the Pouchie feels threatened he may suddenly collapse in the ring and will resist any attempts to get him to resume the down-and-back or whatever else he was supposed to be doing. If this occurs, it is recommended that the steward have the exhibitor gently drag the entry to a safe location outside the ring. It will also be the steward’s job to reassure any spectators or novice exhibitors who may be alarmed at the Pouchie’s apparent lifeless state that he will in fact be OK in several hours.
Please join us in welcoming this handsome and highly adaptable breed to the Terrier Group.

Thomas Hofeller was the mastermind behind REDMAP, the took used by
Republican dirty-tricksters to redraw state electoral maps after the
2010 census in order to deliver state and federal legislative seats to
Republicans even when the majority of people voted Democrats.
Hofeller was a secretive sociopath and had long been estranged from his
daughter, Stephanie, a self-described anarchist who only discovered her
father had died in 2018 when she read the obit pages of the New York Times.
When Stephanie recovered her father’s possessions from his home, she
came into possession of files detailing the REDMAP plans, files of the
sort that he had long exhorted his co-conspirators not to create or
retain.
Stephanie turned some of her father’s files over to the government
watchdog Common Cause for use in a lawsuit over North Carolina’s
redistricting; thanks to the frank admission of racially motivated voter
suppression in Thomas’s files, the court found that NC’s redistricting
was illegal.
in honor of the new roaring 20s, we as a culture are going to stop sleeping on lackadaisy.Â
it’s a webcomic written and drawn by tracy j. butler, set in 1927 st. louis. we follow the staff of a failing speakeasy as they struggle to keep their business afloat. chaos and a lot of murder ensues. it started in 2006 and still updates – no particular schedule, but always, always worth the wait. i’ve been a loyal reader for a decade now. it’s dark, funny, has SO much research put into it, and has some mindbogglingly gorgeous art. it was always great, but as the years have gone by it’s just gotten better and better. some samples:
this was all done by one person.

if you’re into mystery/thrillers, prohibition era fiction, anthropomorphic kitties, awesome character development, and comics with lots of supplementary content to tide you over between updates…. go read lackadaisy.
This was a really touching post to stumble upon. Thank you so much!
As the climate warms, birds are shrinking and their wingspans are growing, according to a new study.
Researchers analysed 70,716 specimens from 52 North American migratory bird species collected over 40 years.
The birds had died after colliding with buildings in Chicago, Illinois.
The
authors say the study is the largest of its kind and that the findings
are important to understanding how animals will adapt to climate change.
“We
found almost all of the species were getting smaller,” said lead author
Brian Weeks, an assistant professor at the school for environment and
sustainability at the University of Michigan.
“The species were pretty diverse, but responding in a similar way,” he said. “The consistency was shocking.”
